The National (RETIRED)
The National was a professional golf tournament that ran from 2007 to 2018. The event's title sponsors names included AT&T National and later the Quicken Loans National. Wanting The National trophy to reflect the area where the tournament was held, and it's name, the iconic Capitol Building was chosen. The intricate trophy consisted of more than 55 pieces cast in bronze and rhodium plate, surrounded by all the state flags, and sat atop a marble base. The iconic trophy became a staple to the tour.
However, for two years (2010-2011) The National was moved to the Philadelphia area. Malcolm DeMille was once again commissioned to create a new trophy to encompass the history of this area. Thus the creation of the Liberty Bell trophy-- a bronze sculpture plated in rhodium that features the Liberty Bell hovering over the Declaration of Independence, and also included the state flags surrounding the sculpture.
